Flat dumbbell press

The flat dumbbell press is a compound movement that targets the chest, specifically the mid and lower chest, triceps, and front delts.

The stability is acceptable in the pressing motion, but getting in the start position can be tricky sometimes, primarily if you use heavy weights.

Getting in the start position can be very fatiguing; otherwise, it is just as fatiguing as any other chest press movement.

This exercise is very effective for building a big chest and becoming stronger and more stable in pressing movements.

The flat dumbbell press can be done in almost every gym as it only requires a bench and two dumbbells, and some people may have enough equipment to do it at home.

Alternatives:

  • Bench press
  • Machine chest press

The machine chest and bench press are just as good as the flat dumbbell press. The bench press is more strength-focused, while the machine chest press is more stable and more effective for hypertrophy.
